Loch Ness have a depth of 788 feet (240 metres) and a length of about 23 miles (36 km)

A one of the largest in Scotland, and the whole of Great Britain.

The northern end of Loch Ness is around 10 km (6 miles) south-west of Inverness, with Fort Augustus located at the other end. The main A82 road between Inverness and Fort William, roughly follows the western shore, passing through the villages of Drumnadrochit and Invermoriston.

The Loch Ness Monster, nicknamed Nessie, is a legendary creature said to inhabit Loch in the Scottish Highlands. While there’s no conclusive evidence of its existence, numerous sightings, photographs, and sonar readings have fuelled the myth for decades.

The loch contains 263 billion cubic feet of water.

The whole ‘monster claim-to-fame’ just isn’t enough however, so Loch Ness has also bagged the title of ‘largest body of water’ in the whole of the UK! There is more water in Loch Ness, than in all the lakes in England and Wales put together.

Discover the hidden gems of Loch Ness, and explore some of the best things to see & do in the area.

Fort Augustus is a small but bustling village on the southwestern end of Loch Ness, known for its picturesque setting and popular with tourists.

The Caledonian Canal passes through the centre of the village, with boats of all shapes and sizes passing through the five locks.

Urquhart Castle is perhaps one of the most iconic attractions in all of Inverness and Loch Ness. The picturesque ruins of Urquhart Castle are situated 2 miles from Drumnadrochit on a rocky peninsula on the banks of Loch Ness. Once a mighty fortress protecting the north from raiders and invaders, the ancient ruins and forgotten battlefields tell the story of strife, struggle and war in the heart of the Scottish Highlands.
